General Process for Mac Migration

There are seven basic steps to follow when migrating Apple computers within the College to Mac OS X 10.4. This page offers those steps in chronological order and brief notes on what they accomplish.

1. Survey the computer
   • Gather software information
   • Gather hardware information

2. Pick up the computer
   • Schedule appointment
   • Bring the tower to the office

3. Backup the Hard Drive
   • Choose a way to back it up
   • Archive the image

4. Installing the Base Image
   • Download the correct .pkg file for this computer
   • Run the .pkg
   • Restart the computer

5. Push Applications & Settings
   • Register the computer
   • Radmind session

6. Restore Old Hard Drive Information
   • Move old image onto computer
   • Restore/create user accounts
   • Test for functionality

7. Return the Computer to the User
   • Hardware installation
   • User orientation
