What is Billiken Info Shield?
(aka ZEN, Novell, MAGIS, ZENworks, new infrastructure, BIS)
Overview
Billiken Info Shield is a collection of tools that ITS is transitioning to using. All of these tools integrate into a suite that will allow leveraging of the IT resources of the University. Some of the highlights are:
- Universal Data access-- You can access your data from your desktop, any other computer on the BIS network, or even another internet attached computer using myfiles.slu.edu.
- Quicker Support -- Once a computer is migrated, with your permission, ITS can 'remote' connect to your computer and work on it.
- Better Stabilty -- There are multiple tools in the suite that allow ITS to ensure that your computer is up to date with the most current OS updates, virus updates, and is running in top condition.
- More Secure -- The transition to this infrastructure is being driven by needs to comply with HIPAA and the inherent needs of a Research Institution. There are safeguards to ensure only the people who need access have access to data.
- Less Downtime -- As part of the A&S implementation of BIS there are backup scripts? that run when you log out. Your data from your computer is backed up to the server and that in turn backed up once a day to tape and other backups. In addition, with the 'pushing' of applications, you can get back up and running much more quickly than in the past.
